Allowing clients in seclusion rooms to manage their own light, music, temperature, ambiance, as well as scent. We made this possible in collaboration with BPI Services.
Collaborating with BPI Services to accelerate client recovery
BPI Services is a specialist in Biometrics, ID Management, Smart Video, and Planning & Registration solutions. Since 2013, BPI Services has been working on developing an interactive touchscreen for clients temporarily staying in seclusion rooms. Through this touchscreen, a client can independently control lighting, music, ambiance, and temperature. Clients also have the option to engage in relaxing games and drawing within special drawing programs. This measure aims to contribute to faster crisis recovery for clients.
Interactive Application of Scent
In 2014, the initial contact was made with Sense Company to allow clients to influence not only light, music, ambiance, and temperature but also scent within the seclusion rooms. It was an exciting challenge to apply various scents within a single space. For this purpose, we developed a customized 4-scent device, enabling switching between four different scents. Subsequently, BPI Services further developed the product to integrate the 4-scent device with the interactive touchscreen. With a simple touch on the screen, the client can now choose from four of our scents.
Effects
Psychologists and experienced professionals recognize the added value of an interactive touchscreen application. By empowering the client to regain control, they are encouraged to actively engage with their immediate environment. This empowerment leads to increased calmness and self-assuredness among clients. It also reduces aggression levels, minimizes conflicts with staff, and decreases self-harm incidents. Ultimately, this impacts the duration of seclusion room stays. In short, these effects are significant!
